The children have been finding out about how people celebrate Chinese New Year. They brought in lots of interesting bits and pieces about Chinese life which they had fun showing the rest of us. They also listened to the story of the animal race and some of us found out which animal we were born under. Some of us had a go at Chinese style writing and trying to use chopsticks - not as easy as you might think! On Friday we watched some video clips of people doing fantastic dragon dances and then went into the Sports Hall to sing a Chinese new year song and do our own dragon dances to typical Chinese music. We've also begun a challenge to make a bag for a can of beans. We are working in pairs which involves lots of discussion and decision making as well as designing and making. Good skills!

Let's go shopping
This week, after writing some important shopping lists, we split into 2 groups to walk to the shops on North Street. Half the class went on Tuesday afternoon and half went on Thursday afternoon. We enjoyed looking at all the different kinds of shops. We went inside some to see what things we liked or didn't like. We all took some money to spend and then enjoyed showing our purchases, which ranged from Gingerbread men to pretty beads, to the class on our return. Everybody was very sensible and well behaved. Thank you to all the parents who helped make this trip possible. We have now started making some pictures of the different shops.

Welcome back Foxy
We've had a hard working week getting back to routines. Letters and Sounds moved on to Phase 3 this week and the children have brought home a new set of 'tricky words' to practise reading and spelling already! We've done more work on '1 more and 1 less' as well as continuing to make 'Get well' cards for Foxy. Then, on Friday, Foxy returned from his spell in hospital! We were so pleased to see him; lots of children asked him questions and told him how much he had been missed and in the afternoon we had a circle time during which Foxy was passed gently round while we all told him about the things we are good at in school. Next week, we will be talking about things we are good at outside of school, so get thinking!

Poor Foxy!
Happy New Year to you all and welcome to Term 3! This term started with a surprise letter from our friend Foxy who has gone into hospital to have his arm mended and asked the children to write to him to cheer him up. A great deal of card writing, picture making and good wishes have been made which will be sent off to him to speed his recovery.
Another surprise was a visit from Lucy who came to give the children a lesson in 'Cheer Leading Dance' complete with pom-poms. Great fun was had by all!
Finally we would like to say thank you again for your gifts and cards for xmas and for all you support over the last 2 terms. Don't forget to sign up for our North Street visit if you can!
