Visit to the woods

Another incredibly busy week in YR!! First of all a big thanks to all those parents who have helped us out this week in different ways.

This week we have learnt our dance ready for the KS1 Christmas show. We have also been learning some Christmas carols as part of the show - Away in a Manger, I Saw Three Ships and The Holly and The Ivy.
In maths we have been finding one and two more and less.
On Tuesday we all visited Leigh Woods. We were quite lucky with the weather, not too wet and muddy. We all had a great time collecting leaves, twigs and lots of other interesting things. Mrs Redpath and Miss Linton were really impressed with our observational skills and how interested we were in everything we saw.
On Friday, we had a special treat , a nativity performed by the Bristol Old Vic theatre school followed by a Christmas display day with lots of glitter!

More teddies

This week our activities have been based around the book Going on a Bear Hunt which we all really loved. We have acted out the story and done some drawings of what happens in the story. Later in the week we have been thinking about words that tell us where things are. We took photos of our teddies in different places around the classroom such as on the chair, in front of the playhouse and under the table.

This week in PE we have been competing in a virtual festival - all the other schools in the local area have been taking part and will share results to find the winners in the cluster! We played a game called Dishes and Domes. The eventual winners were strawberries - congratulations.

This week we have also started to practise for our Christmas play, the nutcracker suite.

The Three Bears

This week most of our activities have been based around the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have acted out the story, cooked some porridge, made stick puppets and started to learn the three bears rap. In maths we have been finding things around the classroom that are taller and shorter than our teddy bears.
This week we have all been up to use the computer suite for the first time and played a three bears game which helped us to practice our mouse skills. We had to click and drag the three bears to the right sized bed, lay the table for breakfast and dress the bears for their walk.

Diwali

This week we have been learning all about Diwali. We have listened to the story of Rama and Sita and acted it out using masks. We have also made Diwali cards, lights and some rangoli patterns too.
In maths we have been thinking about repeating patterns and have made some patterns using shapes, beads and pegs.
On Thursday we learnt a fireworks song and added some actions to it. Some of us decided to make some chalk firework pictures too.
