Final week of Term 5

It was an action-packed final week of term! We performed a retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk to family and friends on Thursday morning. We also had an opportunity to show off our Learning Diaries afterwards. On Friday we had a wonderful time dancing with the rest of the school and eating our lunch outside (with a Royal visit) as part of our Jubilee Celebrations.

Jubilee preparations

On Friday afternoon we joined forces with the rest of the school for a 'mix-up' session.  Its purpose was to make decorations ready for our Jubilee street party next week (weather permitting!).  As usual this turned out to be a delightful time, with older children supporting the younger ones and a general sense of calm spread around the Reception classroom.

Some letters and notes went home today - the 'Zoo Trip' letter and a note about homework for half term.  Please let us know if you did not find these in your child's book bag!

Shapes, games and planting our beans

We have been looking at different shapes and had a chance to make models of 3D shapes as well as also do water paintings and collages of 2D shapes. Eban's mum came in and played a fun game called 'What's The Time Mr Wolf' that helped us with our numbers. We also planted our sprouting beans outside to see if they would carry on growing and made some plant  animal models out of pipe cleaners. What a busy week!

Plants

This week we have been doing more work on plants: we have been looking at the non-fiction book 'My Bean Diary' and examining the stages of growing a bean, we have made plant pictures and labelled the key parts, we have noticed some spurts of growth in our own beans (some have grown out of their bags!) and we have made pictures using seeds.  Our water area had bubbles added to it which made for some good bubble beards, and we were able to finally spend some time in the sunny outdoor area after all the rain we have been having.

Spring Walk

This week we have been on a Spring walk to Gores Marsh playground. We noticed and talked about different signs of Spring such as buds, new flowers and changing colours. Some of us have also made some blossom pictures and written about the walk. We have continued learning and exploring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. When we have retold the story we are using some fantastic language and learning about sequencing the events of the tale.

Welcome Back

Welcome back everybody to the first Summer Term. Most of the week has been spent dodging the heavy showers but we have begun our new topic on Plants by doing some amazing homework which we have enjoyed showing to our class mates. We have started to learn some actions to the traditional story of Jack and the Beanstalk and also begun a large display for the classroom. On Friday we will say goodbye to the year 6 children who are spending a week at Treginnis Farm in W Wales.

Don't forget next Tuesday we hope to walk to Gores Marsh Park - weather permitting!

Happy Easter

Our last week of term has been busy. The children enjoyed their Easter Bonnet Parade and it was great to see so many parents etc in the audience. Thanks for all the lovely comments you left. On Thursday we visited the Life Bus and were entertained by Sam and Harold the Giraffe, finding out all about how and why we need to stay healthy and what happens to our bodies when we exercise. Thursday afternoon was party time as the children had won all their class marbles. We were impressed by their good behaviour throughout. We hope you all have a lovely holiday and that the sun shines on us all! See you on April 16th.
